Fonthill Castle was once home to Henry Mercer, in fact he was the architect and builder of the castle. Mercer was well traveled and was inspired by castles he had seen during his time in Europe.

Mercer called Fonthill a “Castle for the New World,” and walking up to the home, it’s not hard to imagine it fitting in well amongst the many castles of Europe.
